The producers of Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hai can blame the IPL for their game show’s low TRPs. But the fact is that the show disappoints. The format is engaging and the stakes high. What is irritating is the way people behave in it.

Shah Rukh Khan is himself and comes across as a great ham, but things get worse when contestants compete with him on that count. Throw in five precocious children and you have a show that few could warm up to.

The contestants ask Khan to dance with them and recite lines form his movies. They flutter their eyelashes when they are unsure if Jupiter is the biggest planet and jump and squeal when they get an answer right. Apparently, they are playing up to the mood set from the first episode — in which Khan’s film songs were played to suit his opening dialogues.

Heard that Siddharth Basu approached Amitabh Bachchan for the show. Wish he had agreed.
